Larsen Bay Lodge is
located in the heartland of the rugged and beautiful 5,000 square mile
Kodiak Island, (which is the second largest island in the United
States). Kodiak Island is about the size of Connecticut and is an
extension of the Kenai Mountains that form the Kenai Peninsula 90 miles
to the northeast. No matter where you are on Kodiak Island, you are
always within 15 miles of the coast.
Thousands of years
ago the entire Kodiak archipelago was covered in glaciers which carved
its dramatic landscape and deep fjord-like bays. Then abundant rains,
snow, and wind, have applied the finishing touches on the lush, green,
rugged topography. In spring and summer, as you fly from the town of
Kodiak to Larsen Bay the mountains are carpeted in beautiful green
vegetation accented by smatterings of spruce trees giving the island its
nickname, “The Emerald Isle”.
The community of
Larsen Bay is beautifully set at the mouth of the protected waters of
Larsen Bay where they join in with Uyak Bay. The gorgeous mountains
surrounding the many protected bays are reflected on the crystal clear
waters making for unforgettable images and breathtaking sunrises!
No matter what the
season, the landscape is always spectacular Whether it is the wild
flowers of summer, the bright colors of fall, or snow covered mountains,
Kodiak is bound to be your new favorite place to visit!
